Director of Cancer Services and Chief of Hematology and Oncology

Staten Island University Hospital, a tertiary hospital within the North Shore-LIJ Health System, is seeking a Director of Cancer Services and Chief of Hematology and Oncology to lead the clinical, educational and research activities and to integrate the multidisciplinary components of its hospital-wide cancer program, which sees an average of 27,000 patients a year. The opening is due to the retirement of Frank Forte, MD, who served as Director of Cancer Services and Chief of Hem/Onc at Staten Island University Hospital since 1991.

We are searching for a physician-leader who is well known within his or her area of expertise, who is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology, and who wishes to continue clinical practice while handling leadership, management and academic responsibilities. The candidate must demonstrate proven success as a leader in Hematology and Oncology medicine and have a vision for the future of cancer treatment. An academic background, subspecialty training, excellent clinical skills, demonstrated progressive and innovative thinking, and an understanding of the business of medicine will set this candidate apart.

Responsibilities will include program and business development, teaching residents, driving research activities, fostering a pro-research environment, and performing clinical activities. The ideal candidate is a visionary whose innovative and entrepreneurial spirit combined with interpersonal skills will attract and retain top talent to work within a collaborative and productive environment.
